Teleworking Policy
Section 3.X – Teleworking Policy
Teleworking is a cooperative arrangement, based on the needs of the College, each employee’s department, and role, that allows employees to work at alternate work locations for part of their workweek. The College may also require employees to telecommute, as needed, as a condition of employment. Not all positions are conducive to teleworking due to the nature of their duties and responsibilities. A Teleworking arrangement does not change the basic terms and conditions of employment at VanceGranville Community College. Teleworking does not change the essential functions of the role, the employee’s obligations to the College or adherence to College policies and procedures.

Procedures
Teleworking Eligibility
The division’s Vice President must approve any exception to the eligibility rules listed below.
- Employees requesting Teleworking arrangement must have a minimum of nine (9) months of continuous employment (part-time or full-time) at Vance-Granville Community College.
- The nature of the employee’s job allows Teleworking to be appropriate. Job descriptions will include the percentage eligible for Teleworking.
- The employee has no active formal disciplinary actions on file for the last 12 months.
- Teleworking does not adversely affect the College, assigned projects, student advising, student assistance, student relations or the employee’s completion of assigned duties.
Teleworking Approval Process
Your supervisor will review the Teleworking arrangement periodically. If the supervisor determines that the Teleworking agreement is not working effectively or as envisioned, the supervisor may at any time adjust or end the Teleworking arrangement. The employee must perform all of their duties as assigned, as well as and/or different duties that VGCC may assign from time to time.
Further, the employee is obligated to comply with all state and Vance-Granville Community College policies and procedures. Failure to follow Vance-Granville Community College policies or procedures or failure to meet job expectations may result in termination of the Teleworking Agreement or other corrective action including termination.
Once your direct supervisor, Dean/Director, and division’s vice president have approved you for teleworking, the Vance-Granville Community College Teleworking Agreement, located on the VGCC Internal site, must be completed and signed. Once the agreement is signed, it must be filed with Human Resources.
