Secondary Employment
Section 3.Q – Secondary Employment
Full-time employees of Vance-Granville Community College may be approved to have other employment and conduct secondary businesses providing:
- Full-time employment at Vance-Granville Community College is given precedence over all other endeavors.
- The employee does not use his position with Vance-Granville Community College to solicit business.
- The secondary employment does not interfere with the performance of job duties for Vance-Granville Community College and the employee does not conduct business or perform other jobs during hours scheduled to work for Vance-Granville Community College.
- The employee does not use any facility or resources belonging to Vance-Granville Community College (including telephones) to conduct business.
Permission to engage in secondary employment may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the administration, such employment interferes with job duties at VanceGranville Community College. This request must be submitted and approved prior to accepting secondary employment. Failure to comply with this policy may result in immediate termination of secondary employment approval.

Procedures:
- An employee requesting approval for secondary employment must complete the Secondary Employment Request form and submit the form to their immediate supervisor for approval prior to accepting the employment.
- The request must be routed through the appropriate supervisory levels to the President for approval.
- Upon approval, the employee and appropriate supervisory levels are notified via email. The employee is also sent a hard copy of the approved request. All approved Secondary Employment Request forms are filed in the personnel files.
- The President makes the final decision to approve or deny secondary employment.
