Graduation Information

Our 2020 graduation ceremony on May 15, 2020 was postponed due to COVID-19 and has not yet been rescheduled. This is truly a special moment for our graduates and their families, and we will celebrate. Stay tuned for more details.

Graduates – If you will complete all of the requirements for your VGCC credential by the end of Fall Semester 2020 apply for graduation now in myVGCC so your final VGCC transcript will reflect your graduation and we will be able to issue your diploma once final grades are processed.  For Spring 2021 graduates you should apply in January or February 2021. The May 2021 graduation ceremony is scheduled for Friday May 14, 2021.

Candidates for an associate degree or diploma will be recognized at the May graduation ceremony. This includes fall, spring and anticipated summer 2020 graduates. Commencement is held outside in front of the gazebo and is free and open to the public. No admission tickets are required; however, seating is limited and is available on a first come, first serve basis. Guests are welcomed to bring lawn chairs for seating in the grassy area around the gazebo. In the case of inclement weather, the rain date for the graduation ceremony is Saturday May 16, 2020 in the Civic Center on the main campus in Henderson.  The indoor ceremony will have limited seating and each graduate will be issued tickets for a specified number of guests.  Specific details regarding a rain date ceremony will be announced during the week of May 10-14, if the decision is made to use the rain date.

The graduation ceremony is streamed live via the VGCC website ( May 2019 videos are in two parts on YouTube – Part 1 & Part 2 ) for the convenience of those unable to attend. The video streaming platform works best using the Chrome or Firefox web browser.

Seating will also be available in the Civic Center on the Main Campus beginning at 4:30 pm on Friday, May 14, 2020. Guests will be able to view the outdoor ceremony streamed to a big screen in the comfort of an air conditioned building.

The ceremony begins promptly at 6:00 pm. Graduates must report to Building 5 by 5:00 pm to line up in marching order.*

Please note that traffic around the Main Campus is heavy a few hours before, during and after the graduation ceremony. It is recommended that both graduates and guests leave ample time to navigate traffic and find a parking space before ceremony activities begin.

A designated area will be provided for guests with disabilities. Students with disabilities are asked to contact Cathy Davis, Counselor, at 252-738-3350 if special arrangements are needed.

Sign language services are provided during the ceremony for students and guests who are hearing impaired.

Printed diplomas are not distributed during commencement. Graduates will be given instructions after the ceremony that will direct them to a designated area of the campus where they will pick up their diploma. To make the diploma distribution process as quick and efficient as possible, we ask that family and friends wait for graduates outside.

Those individuals who applied to graduate, but do not participate in the graduation ceremony, may pick up their diploma in person in Building 8 on the Main Campus beginning the Monday  after  graduation. A photo ID is required to pick up a diploma. Any diplomas not picked up after approximately one week will be mailed to the address indicated on the Application for Graduation. Summer graduates will receive their diplomas in the mail by late August. The graduation fee and all debts to the college must be paid before the graduate’s degree will be distributed to him or her regardless of participation in the commencement ceremony.
