Telephone Usage
Section 5.G.1 – Long Distance (Toll) Calls
- All toll calls including toll free calls should pertain to College business. The charging of toll calls to the College is prohibited except in the case of an emergency. In such an emergency, the employee must report the number called and the circumstances to the Vice President of Finance and Operations by the close of the next business day. If you make personal calls please charge them to your credit card or use your personal telephone card in order to pay for this privilege.
- Toll calls can be made from restricted phones only by going through the switchboard operator. Unrestricted phones can access long distance by dialing 8 before the number.
- The acceptance of collect calls coming into the College is prohibited except in the case of an emergency. In such an emergency, the employee must report the call and the circumstances to the Vice President of Finance and Operations by the close of the business day.

Section 5.G.2 – Voice Mail
Faculty and staff have access to private voice mailboxes. It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that his or her name and an internal and external greeting are recorded.
Section 5.G.3 – Referral of Incoming Calls
No classes will be interrupted for the purpose of receiving calls except in the case of an emergency. Faculty and staff are asked to restrict telephone calls to business only.
Emergency Calls
- For students: Calls will be referred to Campus Security or to Student Services, depending upon the nature of the emergency.
- For staff: When staff cannot be reached through the office phones, emergency calls should be referred to the employee’s supervisor who will attempt to locate the individual.
