Section 3.H – Nepotism/Employment of Relatives
Pursuant to State Board of Community Colleges Code 1C SBCCC 200.98, Vance-Granville Community College shall not employ two or more persons concurrently who are closely related by blood or marriage in positions which would result in one person of such relationship supervising another closely related person, or having a substantial influence over employment, management, salary, or personnel actions pertaining to the close relative. With respect to the concurrent service of closely related persons within the same academic department or other comparable college unit of employment, neither relative shall be permitted, either individually or as a member of a committee, to participate in the evaluation of the other relative.
Definitions used in this policy are as follows:
“Closely related” is defined as mother, father, son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-inlaw, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, step-mother or father, step-brother or sister, ward, guardian, grandson, granddaughter, grandfather, grandmother, first cousin, husband, wife, domestic partner, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece. This term shall also be taken to refer to those people residing within the same household.
