Professional Licensure Disclosure Statements

Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) has been approved to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). However, NC-SARA does not deal with professional licensing board approval for any courses or programs leading to professional licensure. If you are not a resident of North Carolina and you are taking an online or hybrid course or program leading to professional licensure, please contact the program head at VGCC to discuss licensure options prior to beginning a VGCC academic program in order to determine whether the program meets licensure requirements in your state.

Certified Medication Aide VGCC’s Medication Aide course prepares students to sit for the registration exam through the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation . The N.C. Medication Aide Registry provides information for out-of-state medication aides and requirements to earn this registration.

This registration is state-specific. Students who participation in this class and plan to work in another state should contact that state’s Medication Aide Registry or Board of Nursing for specific requirements and reciprocity agreements.

Cosmetology VGCC’s Cosmetology programs prepare students for the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Exam to earn a license as a Cosmetologist, Manicurist, Natural Hair Care Specialist, and Teacher.

Histotechnology The Histotechnology Program at VGCC is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences .
This program prepares students to sit for the Histotechnology Board of Registry Certification Examination through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). This is a nationally recognized certification.

Students attending as residents of other states should visit the ASCP site for specific information on national certification and their state’s Clinical Laboratory or Medical Board for additional requirements for state-level licensure requirements.

Medical Assisting VGCC’s Medical Assisting Program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and The Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB). The program prepares students for sit for the certification exam through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

This CMA certification is not regulated by states as AAMA is a national certification recognized by employers across the country.

Pharmacy Technology VGCC’s Pharmacy Technology Program prepares students as Validating Technicians as defined by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy Rules, Statutes, and Board Policies Section 21 NAC 46.1418. The program is a recognized education and training program by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Students are eligible to sit for an examination as a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician with the PTCB . PTCB Certification is accepted in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Individual state registration or licensure varies by state. It is recommended to confirm eligibility requirements with the organization you plan to become recognized by.
