VGCC Student Leaders attend Conference

Officers from Vance-Granville Community College’s Student Government Association (SGA) recently attended a conference held in Wilmington by the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA). The VGCC delegation included (pictured above, from left) SGA Parliamentarian Shanequa Pressley of Durham, Vice President Ruthie Davis of Warrenton, Public Information Officer Jon Baker of Louisburg, advisor/Director of Student Activities and Athletics Jasmine Hightower and President Felicia Sanders-Gupton of Warrenton.

Community college students from across the state attended numerous “excellent” seminars offered as part of the conference, according to Sanders-Gupton. “Two in particular stood out for me: ‘Don’t Be Hard On the Soft Skills’ and ‘How to Advocate Effectively’,” she said. “The first focused on improving interpersonal skills, while the second gave very useful tips on how to effectively champion your cause.” Sanders-Gupton added that meeting Dr. Scott Ralls, President of the North Carolina Community College System , as well as SGA members from 48 of the state’s 58 community colleges, was “a unique and wonderful opportunity.”
