VGCC Small Business Center hosts free seminar on taxes, workers’ compensation

The Small Business Center at Vance-Granville Community College is inviting local business owners to use their lunch break to learn more about complying with taxes and workers’ compensation laws. A free seminar, entitled “What every Business Owner needs to know about Taxes and Workers’ Compensation Insurance,” is scheduled to be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in Room 7107 (Building 7) on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County.

Presenters are set to include representatives of the N.C. Department of Revenue, the N.C. Industrial Commission, the N.C. Department of Commerce Division of Workforce Solutions, and the Small Business Administration.

Participants will learn how to protect their businesses by understanding the law and avoiding common mishaps. Topics will include how the state may waive fees and penalties for small business owners with overdue taxes, how to take advantage of Federal Work Opportunity Tax Credits, and rules that require employers to obtain workers’ compensation insurance for their employees.

The seminar is sponsored by the VGCC Small Business Center in partnership with the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development, the Women’s Business Center of North Carolina, the N.C. Department of Revenue and the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch to the seminar. For more information and to register, call the Small Business Center at (252) 738-3275 or 738-3240.
