VGCC meets all State Performance Measures

Vance-Granville Community College met all eight of the North Carolina Community College Performance Measures for 2007-08, according to the 2009 Critical Success Factors report from the N.C. Community College System office, released July 8. VGCC President Randy Parker presented the report at the July 20 meeting of the college’s board of trustees. VGCC was one of 26 colleges in the state to meet or exceed all eight standards. For more than 20 years, the N.C. Community College System has annually compiled an assessment of its 58 colleges based on a variety of indicators related to service, student success and performance during the previous academic year. This annual reporting is part of the strict accountability requirements of the North Carolina General Assembly.

“VGCC passed 100 percent of the measures due to the outstanding work of all our faculty, staff and students,” VGCC President Randy Parker said. “As we celebrate our college’s 40th anniversary this year, this report confirms that Vance-Granville is continuing its tradition of excellence serving students and businesses in our four-county area.”

The eight performance measures, or standards, included the progress of Basic Skills students; passing rates on licensure/certification exams for first-time test takers; performance of College Transfer students; passing rates in developmental courses; success rate of developmental students in subsequent college-level courses; student satisfaction; curriculum student retention, graduation and transfer rate; and client satisfaction with customized training.

The report showed that 96 % of students said they were satisfied with their VGCC education, including 98 % of those who completed their program of study. Meanwhile, 98 % of businesses served by VGCC reported that they were satisfied with the customized training the college provided. Also, 86 % of VGCC College Transfer students had a grade-point average of 2.0 or higher at a UNC institution after two semesters at the university. In addition, 100 % of students who earned the entire Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree at VGCC had a GPA of 2.0 or higher at a UNC institution after two semesters. Students transferring to a four-year state university from Vance-Granville continue to out-perform students who started at public universities as freshmen.

The Critical Success Factors Report is an annual publication that provides performance data on the N.C. Community College System and, where appropriate, individual community colleges.
