Things to Know Before Applying

At VGCC, we value our students’ academic success. That is why we not only offer scholarships from generous donors to our VGCC Foundation, but also from sources outside of the College who want to see our students succeed as well.

There are a couple of things that you should know before applying for a scholarship:

• Scholarships are considered gift aid or “free money.” If you receive a private student loan (money you must pay back), your loan amount may be adjusted to accommodate this free money.
• You must apply for scholarships. Please be aware of deadlines
• Scholarships should NOT charge you a fee to apply. Beware of scams.
• If awarded a scholarship other than from the VGCC Foundation, please send a copy of your award letter to the Financial Aid office at [email protected]. Any checks should be mailed to VGCC, attn: Business Office, PO Box 917, Henderson, NC 27536.

Institutional Scholarships

Vance-Granville Community College General Scholarships

• To apply, students must be admitted to VGCC. The application is not eligible for receiving an award until the student is registered for the upcoming fall or spring semesters.  Students will use their myVGCC username and password to complete the scholarship application.
• The Scholarship Committee chooses selections during the summer for the upcoming academic year.
• Students are encouraged to complete FAFSA application as well.

VGCC scholarship criteria are subject to change by the Vance-Granville Community College Foundation Board of Directors.

Presidential Excellence Award

• Enrolled in at least 9 hours each semester at VGCC
• Demonstrate excellent scholastic record

Presidential Scholar Award

• Enrolled in at least 9 hours each semester
• Demonstrate excellent scholastic record

Presidential Merit Award

• Enrolled in at least 9 hours each semester
• Demonstrate excellent scholastic record

Academic Achievement Award

• Enrolled in at least 9 hours each semester
• Demonstrate excellent scholastic record

Annual Award

• Awarded Yearly
• Must meet criteria set by donor.

NOTE: The VGCC Foundation Scholarships are manually posted to your account within 2 business days of your acceptance by Financial Aid.  If you need it sooner or don’t see it posted within 2 days, don’t hesitate to contact the Financial Aid office at 252-738-3280 or [email protected].
