Central Sterile Processing
Course Description
The Central Sterile Processing curriculum prepares individuals for the field of Sterile Processing and Central Service supply. Students will develop the necessary skills to disinfect, prepare, process, store and issue supplies, instrumentation, and equipment, but sterile and nonsterile, for patient care. Additionally, students will learn to operate sterilizing units and monitor the effectiveness of the sterilization process.
Upon course completion, graduates will be eligible to take the “Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Technician Certification Exam”, earning the title of Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT). Also, through accruing an additional 400 hours of hands-on work experience after completing the course, graduates will be eligible to sit for the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam. The course instructor will assist interested students with planning for the CRCST exam.
Employment opportunities include surgery centers, central sterile processing departments in hospitals, and traveling consultation services.
