The HSE program is designed to develop and improve a person’s mastery of skills and general knowledge in the 4 subject areas of Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math. Any person, 18 years of age or older, may enroll in the program. Students entering a HSE course of study are assessed to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses. Instructors work individually with students in goal planning the most effective study program. HSE classes concentrate on improving reading comprehension skills, writing ability, and up-grading math skills in preparation for HSE testing.
The HSE test is a high school equivalency credential. Students complete the HSE test when they pass official tests on each of four subject areas.
The cost of the high school equivalency test complete battery is $80.00 ($20.00 per content area test). The testing fee is subject to change by the State Board of Community Colleges
VGCC is a Pearson Vue Authorized Test Center and is approved to deliver the 2014 HSE test on computers at three campus locations: Main, South, and Franklin.
