VGCC Warren Campus Offers Health Care Training

Vance-Granville Community College’s Warren County Campus will start two courses in April that prepare area residents for careers in health care. First, a Medication Aide training course will be held at the campus in Warrenton from Monday, April 2 through Thursday, April 5, from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Medication Aides work in settings such as home-health agencies and skilled nursing facilities under the direction of a Registered Nurse.To register for the course, a student must have a high school diploma or GED and must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry as a CNA I. Students who successfully complete the course will be able to take a state exam and qualify to be listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry. Persons interested in taking the course should register by March 19. The cost for this course is $55, plus the cost of a textbook.The Warren campus will also offer a Nurse Aide I course, starting April 10 and continuing through June 8. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, with lectures from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., and clinical training from 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Nurse Aide I program is designed to prepare students to become Certified Nursing Assistants. VGCC’s certification programs offer classroom education, laboratory training, and clinical experiences in local nursing homes and hospitals. Jobs for CNAs are available at nursing homes, physicians’ offices and other healthcare facilities.Registration will take place on March 26 at 3 p.m. To register for the course, a student should bring a Social Security card, a picture ID and a TB skin test result. There are no pre-requisites for this course.The cost of the course, including tuition, insurance and student fees, is $93. Students will also purchase a textbook and uniform.
