VGCC to recognize sophomores on Women’s Volleyball team

The Vance-Granville Community College Vanguards women’s volleyball team will honor its sophomores at the match on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m., at Aycock Recreation Center in Henderson. Admission is free of charge for the match, at which the Vanguards will host the Storm from Davidson County Community College.

The two second-year players rounding out their VGCC playing careers are (pictured above, from left) Jesse Edwards and Kiyanna Kearney, both of Henderson.

Kearney has been the consistent team leader in digs, solo blocks and kills. Edwards leads in blocks per set and block assists, and is second in assists to freshman Stormi Abernathy of Yanceyville. Kearney is also in the top five players in the conference for points per set (3.9), while Edwards has one of the top five hitting percentages (.360).

After the Davidson County CC match, the Vanguards (11-6) return for one more home contest at Aycock: a doubleheader versus Danville (Va.) Community College on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. The regular season is scheduled to end on Monday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m., at Louisburg College.
