VGCC to host Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday Gospel Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 15

Vance-Granville Community College’s Civic Center will once again be filled with the harmonious voices of area choirs in a program that honors the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. The gospel celebration will be held in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.

Among the groups participating in this year’s program are the Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church, White Rock Missionary Baptist Church, Good Shepherd Ministries Mass Choir and the High Praise Young Adult Choir. Admission is free, and the public is invited. Attendees are asked to bring a can of soup, which will be donated to help area senior citizens. Youth involved in VGCC’s Workforce Investment Act program will be collecting the soup as a service project.

Renowned speaker Delano Rackard of Raleigh will share with the audience excerpts from some of Dr. King’s well-known speeches. Anthony Pope, director of VGCC’s Franklin County Campus, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
