VGCC Summer Registration Ends May 21

Many young scholars long for the time when “school’s out for summer,” but school will be “in” throughout the summer at Vance-Granville Community College. The schedule for summer-term curriculum classes at VGCC is now available, and students can begin making plans for their summertime studies. A variety of classes are offered during the day, at night, or online. The 10-week summer term begins Tuesday, May 22, and runs through Friday, August 3. A four-week mini-term will also begin on May 22, but it will conclude on Tuesday, June 19. Both the 10-week and the four-week terms pack into a shorter period the same number of hours taken in 16 traditional weeks of class time.Registration for both the full summer term and the mini-term will be held Wednesday, April 25, Thursday, April 26 and Monday, May 21. On May 21, registration will end at 3 p.m.Returning students should meet with their advisors and enter their schedules at the advisor’s office, in the Student Services building on the main campus or at one of the three satellite campuses in Granville, Franklin and Warren counties.New students should complete an application for admission, complete a placement test (if necessary), complete a financial aid package, submit official transcripts of previous education, and attend orientation. New students will be assigned an advisor, and they will meet with the advisor to work out their schedules.Orientation for students entering the college transfer or education curriculum programs will be held on Wednesday, April 25, at 5 p.m. in room 6102 on the main campus in Vance County. Late orientation will be offered on Monday, May 21 at noon at the same location.Orientation for all Applied Technologies and Public Service, Business Technologies and pre-Health programs will be held on Wednesday, April 18 at 5 p.m. in the Civic Center on the main campus. A later version of this orientation will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 5 p.m. at the same location. In addition, other orientations are offered at the other VGCC campuses: South Campus, located on N.C. 56 between Butner and Creedmoor; Franklin County Campus, also located on N.C. 56, just west of Louisburg; and Warren County Campus, on West Ridgeway Street in Warrenton. Students can contact the directors of those campuses for more information.New students are urged to complete the admission application and the financial aid package at the earliest possible time. Processing of financial aid applications takes three to four weeks, and school officials stress that persons applying for aid should do so now.Because of state guidelines, many summer courses must sustain themselves financially. For that reason, certain classes that normally have tuition waived for high school students in Dual Enrollment and for senior citizens may not be able to offer tuition waivers. The complete schedule of summer classes is available by visiting the VGCC website (www.vgcc.edu) and clicking on “Schedules.” Anyone with questions about summer registration at Vance-Granville should contact the college’s main campus at (252) 492-2061 or visit any of the other campuses for more information.
