VGCC Student Artists Show Works; Evening Class Scheduled In Spring

About 20 pieces of artwork, both color and black-and-white, are hanging in the halls and a conference room of a classroom building at Vance-Granville Community College. They represent the efforts of the students in Scott Garrison’s Painting I, a curriculum class in the College Transfer program of VGCC.

During the Fall Semester, which ends Dec. 15, the class was held in the morning, but it will be offered in evenings during Spring Semester 2001, which begins in January.

“This is an acrylic painting class, in which students learn from the beginning with stretching canvas onto frames,” Garrison said. During the semester, each student will complete two paintings, one a black-and-white collage and the other a full color painting of anything of the student’s choice.

“I work with each student on an individual basis, help them choose their subjects and transferring their ideas to canvas,” Garrison said.

Painting I will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 10, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Openings remain in the class, which is restricted to 12 students, and anyone interested in registering for the class should call Student Advising at (252) 492-2061.
