VGCC Starts New Scholarship With Big Gift From Glen Raven

Glen Raven Inc. of Norlina, the largest corporate donor to the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund and Scholarship Program, recently donated an additional $20,000 to the program.

This brings to more than $183,000 the amount given by Glen Raven to assist Warren County students in their educational endeavors at Vance-Granville.

VGCC President Robert A. Miller said the school will begin a third Glen Raven Presidential Scholar Award, the first of which will be presented to a student in the 2003-2004 school year. Presidential Scholar Awards are worth $1,200 to deserving students, and they are the highest level of scholarship among the more than 275 presented by VGCC each year.

Glen Raven has also endowed a Presidential Merit Award of $1,000 per year at Vance-Granville.

In accepting this latest donation, Miller told Todd Wemyss, Glen Raven’s site manager at Norlina, “We sincerely appreciate the excellent working relationship between our college and your company. Glen Raven serves as an excellent example to other industry as demonstrated through your commitment to the education of your employees and the citizens of your community.”

Vance-Granville and Glen Raven have a long partnership, in which the college also conducts a literacy laboratory at the plant for employees and their families
