VGCC Starts Cake Decorating Class At Masonic Home For Children

Wouldn’t you like to make cakes that look as good as they taste? Take the new Vance-Granville Community College class in cake decorating and you can.

Hazel Davidson, food services supervisor at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, will teach the class in the Home’s cafeteria on Tuesday evenings, Sept. 9 through Oct. 28. Classes will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Davidson has been involved in cake design more than 30 years, has owned and operated her own bakery, and has taught at VGCC since 1988. She promises a relaxed, exciting atmosphere in her class.

“We’ll go from icing to completely decorating a cake,” said Davidson. “We’ll go into making icing and mixing colors, and we’ll look at doing character cakes and birthday cakes, and I’ll give an introduction to wedding cakes.”

Davidson promises that each student will get one-to-one instruction, and they will practice hands-on application of what they learn.

Registration cost for the class is $30. For more information and to pre-register, call the VGCC Continuing Education Office at (252) 492-2061.
