VGCC Staff, Faculty Members Attend International Leadership Conference

Four representatives of Vance-Granville Community College attended the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development’s International Conference on Teaching & Leadership Excellence May 29-June 1 in Austin, Texas.

VGCC President Randy Parker took three 2004 award winners from the school to the conference. They were former Vice President Fred Wilson, who retired last year and was the winner of the 2004 President’s Leadership Award; Angela Johnson, program head and instructor for Criminal Justice Technology, 2004 Instructor of the Year; and Debra Hughes, executive assistant to the Vice President for Finance, Staff Person of the Year for 2004.

The conference was hosted by the University of Texas at Austin and was held in the Austin Convention Center. During the conference, the attendees participated in Faculty Development and Leadership Development seminars, as well as seminars on student success and other leadership workshops.

Attendees also heard actor-producer-director Henry Winkler (“The Fonz”) and actress-artist-writer Jane Seymour discuss their life experiences on their paths to personal and professional growth and success.

  President Parker said the trip was to honor the three VGCC staff members for their excellent performance and, in the case of Johnson and Hughes, preparation for expanded leade    

Wilson, Johnson and Hughes were among more than   1,000 faculty, staff and administrators who received Excellence Awards nationally this year.
