VGCC South Campus Honors Medical Coding graduates

Vance-Granville Community College honored 29 students on March 13 who completed the Medical Coding certificate program at the college’s South Campus in Granville County. South Campus assistant director Jason Snelling congratulated the graduates, noting that this was the first Medical Coding graduating class at the campus, located between Butner and Creedmoor. “You will be going down in South Campus history,” Snelling said.Before presenting certificates to each graduate present, VGCC instructor Marianne Durling commended the class for its hard work. “I would like to thank your families and your employers, who have supported you for the past 13 or 14 months, as you have gone through this program,” Durling added. “Medical Coding is an ever-challenging, ever-changing field. I hope you take with you the desire to continue learning,” she said. “Be confident in your skills. You all have the ability to be successful.”The Medical Coding graduates included Teresa B. Walker, Kathy Lloyd, Taikitia S. Jackson, Carolyn P. Fuller and Lisa G. Conrad, all of Creedmoor; Melissa Ann Smaw of Durham, Tracy Thompson of Franklinton, Tammy E. Allison, Dori Pinit, Violet B. Harrison, Rita Edwards and Tamela E. Alston, all of Henderson; Tammy Evans, Ashley Smith, Donna Spencer and Kathy J. Slusher, all of Louisburg, Susan Losey, Teresa Elliott, Carolyn Harris, Sherry Shavon Harris, Mavis Selena James, Donna Lyon McFalls, LaKanya M. Roberts and Vickie D. Golden, all of Oxford; Patricia Muenkel of Raleigh, Chasity Evans of Townsville, Lauren M. Carnagey of Wake Forest, and Julie W. Creech of Zebulon.Medical coding is the process of taking written medical records and converting them into a numerical language in order to submit a bill for services or supplies to an insurance company for payment.
