VGCC schedules EMT-Basic Course, EMT Refresher

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic course to start Wednesday, Oct. 13 in Butner. This course, which lasts approximately 20 weeks, represents the first phase of training in Emergency Medical Services. Classes will be held two days each week from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with one additional class held on a Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Area residents in need of an EMT Refresher course may also receive that training through this class. They will be required to attend approximately 60 hours of training and meet all criteria set forth by VGCC.

Tuition for either the EMT-Basic or the EMT-Basic Refresher course is $175. Students in the Basic course also pay $17.25 for insurance, and students in either course pay a $3 security/access fee. All fees are payable at the second class meeting. The tuition may be waived for members of agencies such as fire departments, rescue squads, law enforcement agencies or 911 centers. The student must also pay the cost of textbooks at the bookstore on VGCC’s Main Campus.

VGCC offers Emergency Medical Services training from the Basic to the Paramedic level, in addition to continuing education. For more information about prerequisites for this course, the course schedule, and registration, contact coordinator Randy Owen at (252) 738-3448.
