VGCC Offers Wastewater Treatment Course

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a 78-hour course, beginning in February, to prepare wastewater treatment operators for the North Carolina Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission Grade I and II examinations.

The training course will be held Feb. 16-July 20 on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 1-3 p.m. in Room 6104, Building 6, on the main campus in Vance County.

Greta Glover, a certified wastewater treatment operator in Halifax County, will teach the course. It will provide participants with knowledge of the various types of wastewater plants and their operation, the composition of wastewater, its sampling and analysis, and laws and regulations related to wastewater treatment. It will also teach how to perform simple mathematics calculations used in treatment processes, proper maintenance of treatment units and equipment, record keeping, safety and public relations.

Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants (Volumes I and II), Advanced Waste Treatment and the Needs to Know Manual of the Water Quality Section of the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources will be the texts for the course.For more information and to pre-register, call Alison Proctor at (252) 492-2061, ext. 3239.
