VGCC Offers Saturday Classes For Beginning Knitters

People who have never knitted but would like to learn how can do so in a Beginning Knitting class to be offered at Vance-Granville Community College’s main campus in Vance County.

Instructor Peggy Stocks calls the class “Fun, fur and scarves” and says that students can make a fashion statement and keep warm with scarves they learn to knit from colorful, but practical yarn. “Once they get the hang of it, they will be able to complete a scarf in one day,” Stocks said.

The class will be held on four Saturday mornings on Feb. 12 and 19 and March 5 and 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Cost of the class is $25, to be paid at the first session. Plans are to only offer this class one time.

Stocks is a veteran instructor of quilting classes in the Continuing Education program at Vance-Granville. She has been knitting since World War II when her Girl Scout troop knitted blankets to send to American soldiers.

To get a list of supplies beginning knitters will need for the class, for more information and to pre-register, call Donna Dodson at (252) 738-3316.
