VGCC offers Italy trip during Anniversary year

Vance-Granville Community College officials are preparing to celebrate the college’s fortieth anniversary during 2009, and they have already announced one unique activity. For the first time, VGCC’s Endowment Fund will sponsor a “study abroad for the community,” in the form of a trip to Italy scheduled for Oct. 17-26, 2009. The trip is open to adults in the college’s service area (Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties). Final pricing will be determined by the total number of travelers, but group discount rates will apply.

The proposed itinerary for the “ Splendors of Italy ” tour includes sites of historic and cultural significance in Rome, Siena, Florence, Venice and Assisi. Two dinners and eight buffet breakfasts will be included in the tour package.

“What a wonderful way to cap our 40th Anniversary with an exciting, educational trip,” said Jo Anna Jones, VGCC’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Endowment Director. The VGCC Endowment Fund and Scholarship Program has supported students by awarding more than 5,000 scholarships since 1982. With assets of more than $6 million, VGCC has one of the largest community college endowment and scholarship funds in the state. Tax-deductible donations to the VGCC Endowment Fund have often been used to honor or remember a person, group, business or industry with a lasting gift to education.
