VGCC Offers Daytime Computer Class for Teachers

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled a second session of a course that appeals particularly to teachers on summer break. The course, “Teacher Renewal: Basics of a Computerized Classroom,” was developed with educators in mind, but anyone can attend. Students will cover the basics of using Microsoft Office 2003 (including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) in a classroom setting.The eight-class course is held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. until noon in Room 7100 (Building 7) on the college’s main campus in Vance County. This session will run from July 16 through August 8. Students will receive 2.4 CEUs for this course.Some of the features to be taught in the Microsoft Word portion of this class will include the basics of formatting text and paragraphs, adding tables, inserting graphic elements, controlling page appearance, and utilizing proofing tools. In Excel, students will create and edit simple spreadsheet files, format and print worksheets, learn to perform basic calculations, and customize worksheet layouts. In the third component of this course, students will create basic PowerPoint presentations for delivery in front of an audience. They will format, modify and animate text slides, add tables and images, work with objects, generate charts from data, and apply and modify design templates.The cost of the 32-hour course is $60 for registration, plus a $3 technology fee.For more information and to register for this class, call VGCC at (252) 738-3239 or (252) 738-3417.
