VGCC offers course on building, repairing computers

Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for a course that will teach area residents how to get the best performance out of their personal computers.

 

“PC Maintenance & Repair” is scheduled to be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., Oct. 31, 2013 through Feb. 6, 2014, in room 7107 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.

 

Mitch Evans, the Director of Information Technology for VGCC, is the instructor for this hands-on course. Topics covered during the course will include networking, printer sharing, file sharing, and installing add-on hardware and software. Evans will include tips on scanning and removing virus information, spyware and ad-ware. Students will completely build and assemble a PC during this class, and they will also get hands-on experience in system recovery and system restoration operations.

 

“My students from previous classes have been able to save themselves and their family members a great deal of money because they were able to clean and remove virus and spyware information from their computers,” Evans said. “Several students were given estimates of $150 to $250 to repair their computer, but they were able to repair and clean it themselves. In addition, some students have used the knowledge and hands-on experience they gained from this class to obtain jobs and make themselves more marketable as employees.”

 

The registration fee for this course is $180, with other college fees totaling $7.
