VGCC Offers Beginner, Intermediate Shagging

If you’re one of the students who took advantage of beginner shag lessons offered by Vance-Granville Community College in February and March, you should be ready for the intermediate level classes beginning in May.

And if you missed those beginner lessons, they will be offered again on the same nights as the intermediate classes.

Intermediate shag classes will be taught May 4-June 22 on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8, followed by beginner classes from 8 to 9 p.m. Classes will be held in the lower level lobby of Building 9 on the main campus in Vance County.

Ronnie McMannen of Durham and Anna Jacobs of Greensboro, who taught the last classes, will lead these new sessions. McMannen has taught dancing at several clubs in Raleigh, including the Long Branch and Red’s Beach Club, as well as in Durham and Roxboro. He and Jacobs teach together in Hillsborough.

Cost of the shag classes is $35 each. For more information and to pre-register, call the VGCC Continuing Education Office at 252-738-3316.
