VGCC Franklin Campus schedules Welding and Spanish

Upcoming evening classes at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg give area residents opportunities to learn new skills for personal or workplace use.

Basic Welding” will be offered at the Franklin County Campus on Mondays from 6 until 9 p.m., Sept. 27 through Dec. 13. Under the direction of instructor Joseph Crews, students will learn the basics of arc welding, electric welding, gas welding, operations of a cutting torch, welding safety and a brief introduction to Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding. Students will be able to use what they learn in this hands-on course for small welding jobs around the house. The cost of the course is $120.

Another course, “Introduction to Workplace Spanish,” will be offered on Mondays from 6 until 9 p.m., Oct. 25 through Dec. 12. This course will teach non-Spanish speakers the basics of the Spanish language for use on the job, with an emphasis on oral comprehension and verbal response. The instructor is Nydia Dohnert. The cost of the course is $65.
