VGCC Franklin Campus Child Care Students learn about Fire Safety

Young students at the Child Care Center on Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus recently celebrated Fire Safety Week (Oct. 5-11).

Special guests at the five-star child day care during the week included Louisburg Firefighter Lt. Dalton West, Smokey the Bear, Brian Champion of the N.C. Forest Service and the “Fire Pup.” Children learned about smoke detectors, the “stop, drop and roll” technique and firefighting equipment.

Students enjoyed a visit by a Louisburg Fire Department truck. Dalton West.

On Oct. 11, the children celebrated by dressing like firefighters, as did center manager Michelle Patterson-Jones. “Fire safety is extremely important to me and close to my heart because I have always been a fireman’s daughter,” Patterson-Jones said. Her father and “hero,” Captain Ray Patterson, is one of the most senior staff members of the Louisburg Fire Department.
