VGCC Endowment Fund Board Member Named To N.C. Community College Board

B. Joanne Steiner of Wake Forest has been appointed by Gov. James B. Hunt to serve on the State Board of Community Colleges. She was appointed Sept. 11, and her term expires June 30, 2003.

The facilitator for corporate staff and services at Novo Nordisk Biochem North America, Inc., in Franklinton, she assumed that position in December of 1996. Prior to that, she had been the director of human resources at Novo Nordisk since April 1983.

Steiner is active in supporting education at the local level through various projects and initiatives. She has been a member of the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund Board of Directors since January 1995. Over the past several years, Novo Nordisk has started three endowed Academic Achievement Scholarships valued at $500 per year at VGCC. She has also worked closely with the N.C. Biotechnology Center.

Steiner is a graduate of North Carolina State University where she received a degree in Business Administration. She is also pursuing a Masters Degree in Organizational Consulting at Ashridge College, UK. She is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and is married to a retired accountant and they have two sons.
