VGCC Computer classes scheduled at Main Campus and at Library

Vance-Granville Community College is now registering students for computer-related classes starting soon on the college’s main campus in Vance County and at the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library on Breckenridge Street in Henderson.

Two evening courses are scheduled to be offered on Main Campus. First, VGCC will again offer a class that teaches students about Computer-aided Drafting (CAD) with the AutoCAD LT software. This course will be held on Tuesday nights, Jan. 18 through April 26, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. AutoCAD is used in a variety of professions such as engineering, architecture, manufacturing and even landscaping and interior design. Students need a good working knowledge of computers in order to take the AutoCAD class, but they do not need drafting experience.

Also on Main Campus, a “Beginner’s Typing” course will be held on Wednesday nights, Jan. 19 through March 9, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Two afternoon courses are offered by VGCC in partnership with the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library . The first is the “Beginner’s Guide to Computers & Internet.” Classes are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 until 4 p.m., Jan. 18 through Feb. 10. The Microsoft Windows 7 operating system will be used to introduce novice students to the common components and many uses of personal computers through the Windows environment.

The second course at the library is “Introduction to Computer Skills for Job Seekers,” which will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 until 4 p.m., Jan. 19 through Feb. 23.

Course fees vary depending on the number of hours, but registration fees are waived for N.C. resident seniors, ages 65 and above. For more information on costs and to register for any of these computer courses, call (252) 738-3417 or 738-3324.
