VGCC Community Band presents concert at Louisburg High

The Vance-Granville Community Band will kick off its 2011-2012 season with a concert on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Louisburg High School Auditorium (201 Allen Lane, Louisburg). This marks the second consecutive year that the band, which is a joint effort between interested citizens and students, will present its fall concert in Franklin County.

Admission is free.

Michael Stephenson, the Vance-Granville Community College music instructor and director of the band, said that the program will feature Holst’s Second Suite for Military Band, a work for band and organ (with special guest Brian Miller, band director at Louisburg High School), marches and standard band works. In addition to the community band’s performance, the audience will also be entertained by Motown and jazz selections performed by the “Vanguard Combo,” a group of VGCC Music Scholarship recipients and other students. The Vanguard Combo is Eriekca Crosby (vocals), Joseph Hedgepeth (tenor saxophone), Chris Bost (guitar), Sean Casady (bass) and Charlie Burwell (drums).

Formed in 2008, the Vance-Granville Community Band has grown to approximately 50 members, including people from all four counties of the VGCC service area (Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin). For more information, call Michael Stephenson at (252) 738-3346.
