VGCC Class Offers Instruction In Most Popular Line Dances

One of Vance-Granville Community College’s most popular continuing education classes, line dancing, will begin again on Sept. 11 when instructor Lori Forsythe teaches a wide variety of the popular steps.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. in Room 9111 on the lower level of the Civic Center on VGCC’s main campus for eight weeks, concluding Oct. 30.

Forsythe, who has taught line dancing several years at the college and other locations, said this year’s instruction will include dances such as “Four Corners,” “Boot Scooting Boogie,” “Chocolate City Hustle,” “Wild Man Strut,” and several others. The music of artists as varied as ’N Sync, Brooks & Dunn, Trisha Yearwood and Confederate Railroad will be used to teach the dances.

A new dance will be introduced each week and will be reviewed in succeeding weeks, Forsythe said. “I teach each dance by sections, and I guarantee every person will learn a dance,” she added.

Line dancing is a fun way to exercise, similar to aerobics, Forsythe said.

Fees of $25 for registration and $2 for parking will be collected the first night. Students will need their license tag number for the parking sticker. VGCC officials said it is important to pre-register by calling the Continuing Education office at (252) 492-2061, ext. 3316.
