VGCC Chooses 10 Students As Ambassadors

Ten outstanding students have been chosen by Vance-Granville Community College to serve as Ambassadors during the 2003-2004 school year.

Representing the college at special campus and community functions are Nancy Mace of Stem, a Radiography student, Dolly White of Bunn, an Associate Degree Nursing student, Caroline Lovell of Youngsville, a Medical Office Administration student, Christopher Boyd of Norlina, whose major is Criminal Justice Technology, and Henderson residents Donnie Reynolds, a Recreation & Leisure Studies student, Sharon Haskins, a Pre-Associate Degree Nursing student, and College Transfer student Kathryn Terry.

Cindy Davis of Warrenton, a College Transfer student, represents the Warren County Campus, Early Childhood Associate student Wanda Creekmore of Nashville represents the Franklin County Campus, and Loraine Eaton of Louisburg, a Human Services Technology/Substance Abuse student, is the South Campus Ambassador.

To qualify as an Ambassador, a student must have attended VGCC for one year and have achieved a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average. Each nominee undergoes committee interviews.

Ambassadors receive special training through workshops covering leadership, motivation, hospitality and etiquette. In order for them to be helpful and responsive to visitors, they receive instruction in college history and college programs and services.

Their duties include serving as guides or hosts and hostesses at events such as graduation, orientation for new students, annual scholarship awards ceremonies, college-sponsored concerts and activities at the Civic Center, and annual Career Day. The new Ambassadors have already assisted in several programs during the current school year, such as new student orientation and EXPO 2003.

Ambassadors receive a scholarship and a VGCC blazer for their services to the college.

Vanessa R. Jones, dean of Student Development and Advancement Services, and Cindy Jackson, counseling services secretary, are advisors to the Ambassadors.
