VGCC Ceremony May 11 Will Honor Fallen Law Enforcement Officers

Eight North Carolina law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in the past two years will be honored at an early morning ceremony May 11 at Vance-Granville Community College.

The public is invited to attend the wreath-laying ceremony at the flag poles in front of Building 1 on the main campus, beginning at 8 a.m.

Rufus Sills, director of the Butner Public Safety Department, will be the principal speaker at the event.

Students of the Vance-Granville Community College Criminal Justice Club, which is sponsoring the ceremony, will add a rose to the wreath for each of the fallen officers, and the wreath will be laid at the flag poles as “Taps” is played.

The Rev. Frank Sossamon, pastor of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, will sing during the ceremony, and an honor guard will present the colors.

Refreshments will be served in the Civic Center for all attendees following the ceremony.
