VGCC Bioprocess Program holds Open House

Area residents considering a career in Biotechnology are invited to an open house for Vance-Granville Community College’s Bioprocess Technology program on Tuesday, Nov. 18 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The public can learn more about the program in rooms 8101 and 8113 on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

Joseph E. Tyler of Henderson, who is completing his first semester as head of the program, will introduce visitors to Bioprocess Technology. VGCC’s Bioprocess Technology curriculum is designed to prepare individuals to work as Process Operators in biological products manufacturing facilities. Students combine basic science and communication skills, manufacturing technologies, and good manufacturing practices in the course of the study. The associate degree program produced its first graduates earlier this year.

After remarks from VGCC Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. Michael Ellis, representatives of area biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, such as Merck and Novozymes, will talk about the industry.

Tyler will give visitors a tour of the state-of-the-art Biotechnology lab on the college’s main campus. Information will also be offered on BioWork, the one-semester training course offered at the college’s Franklin County Campus, which has its own well-equipped Biotechnology lab.

For more information, call Joe Tyler at (252) 738-3350.
