VGCC announces 2014-15 Vanguards Basketball schedule

The Vance-Granville Community College Vanguards men’s basketball team is scheduled to play at least 25 games during the 2014-2015 season, including ten home games. This is the program’s second season under the leadership of head coach Michael Woody.

The Vanguards compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II, which includes 11 two-year colleges in North Carolina and Virginia.

The regular season kicks off when VGCC hosts Tidewater Community College on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. All home games are scheduled to be played at Aycock Recreation Center in Henderson, and all are free and open to the public.

VGCC’s tough conference schedule is again highlighted by area rival, and perennial powerhouse, Louisburg College. VGCC welcomes the Hurricanes on Dec. 3, before the Vanguards return the favor in Louisburg on Jan. 16.

In November, the Vanguards will participate in the “Region X Blast-Off” Tournament in Southern Pines. That event will allow VGCC to face off against Rock Hill, South Carolina-based Clinton College.

VGCC also has scheduled a pair of non-conference games with the Junior Varsity squads from two four-year schools: one at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg on Nov. 3 and the other at the University of Mount Olive on Nov. 24.

The regular season will continue through February, with VGCC’s final home game scheduled for Feb. 18, versus Catawba Valley Community College. After the regular season ends, the Vanguards are scheduled to participate in the NJCAA Division II Region X tournament, which will be held in March in Louisburg.
