VGCC Ambassadors pack boxes for Operation Christmas Child

Students who serve as ambassadors at Vance-Granville Community College recently packed shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, books and other useful items in order to bring some holiday joy to underprivileged children around the world, as part of the Operation Christmas Child Project.

Pictured above, from left, student David Henry of Macon, VGCC endowment specialist (and advisor for the ambassadors) Kay Currin, and student Theresa Chiplis of Norlina prepare four boxes to be delivered. In each box, they included hand-written notes and a picture of all of the VGCC ambassadors, a group of outstanding students who represent the college at special events and take on leadership roles on campus.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of the North Carolina-based humanitarian organization, Samaritan’s Purse. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 100 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 100 countries. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Operation Christmas Child expects to collect another 9.8 million shoebox gifts this year.
