VGCC Alumni Honor O’Neal With Honorary Membership

The Vance-Granville Community College Alumni Association has honored Scott O’Neal with an honorary lifetime membership for his service to the organization.

He joins President Robert A. Miller, retired President Dr. Ben F. Currin, retired Dean of Student Services Frank Madigan, Carl B. Flippin Jr., William L. Gibbs, Willie Henderson, Nancy Tunstall, Helen Walker and James Edwards as honorary members.

O’Neal, who lives in Norlina, is the tutor supervisor for Student Support Services at the college. He worked with the Alumni Association as its advisor from 1994 to 2001, and he is credited with holding the association together and keeping it viable during its early years.

The Alumni Association reorganized last year and chose the following officers: Danny Mangum, president; Julie Rollins, vice president; Beverly Byrd, director of publications; Ann Taylor, director of membership/activities; and Copper Rain, secretary/treasurer. Horace Bullock has recently been elected by the association as director of fundraising as the association strives to raise money to start a scholarship to assist deserving students at Vance-Granville.

Membership in the Alumni Association is open to all graduates who hold degrees, diplomas or certificates from Vance-Granville, or non-graduates who have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarters hours. Lifetime membership in the association is only $30.
