VGCC Adds Online Business Courses

Vance-Granville Community College has added six new online courses targeted especially toward management and business administration.

Although VGCC already had an extensive library of more than 50 online courses geared exclusively to business administration and management, these new courses will be a valuable addition, said Ann Behar, coordinator of the Computer Center and Online Instruction.

“These courses will allow us to offer training in best management practices to the VGCC service area on an ongoing basis,” Behar said. “Online courses offer the flexibility of being available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via the Internet, which is a big advantage to busy workers. Additionally, because the courses are held online, we can hold a class even if just one student is interested.”

Garland Elliott, director of Economic Development Services at VGCC, said he is particularly excited about the course offerings for Six Sigma. “Six Sigma is a process that companies can use to create and implement a strategy for increased efficiency and growth,” he said. “These courses will be a valuable resource for local businesses and industries.”

The courses being added are:

Hire Smart helps managers learn how to recruit and retain the quality, productive employees they need to succeed in business.

Manufacturing Fundamentals teaches the basic skills required to work in the manufacturing field by exploring the various aspects of processes such as production design, process planning, performance factors and more.

Mastery of Business Applications covers the practical aspects of business, sales vs. marketing, the need or operations management and quality management.

Supply Chain Management Applications builds on the Supply Chain Management Fundamentals course by teaching students how to apply management techniques such as total quality management, Six Sigma, total employee involvement and much more.

Six Sigma: Total Quality Fundamentals and Six Sigma: Total Quality Applications will help students learn and apply the elements and methods of Six Sigma to achieve total quality.
