Thirteen Graduate From VGCC Day Care, Ready To Move On To ‘Big School’

en 5-year-olds graduated from the Vance-Granville Community College Day Care Center on May 20 and will enter kindergarten this fall. Three other graduates were unable to attend.

Complete with white mortar boards and tassels, the youngsters marched in to the center’s Multi-Purpose Room and participated in commencement exercises before a full house of beaming parents and grandparents.

This year’s graduating class was composed of Caleb Ryan Ayscue, Clara Whitaker Bobbitt, Brandon Joel Hughes, Riley Paige Proctor, Alexis Taylor Reese Evin Faithe Swilley, twins Jackson Thomas Vaughan and Joseph Payne Vaughan, and Suzanne Cathleen Williams, all of Henderson, Bliss Nesrin Jizi, Lowell Blake Smith and Madison Hailey Williamson of Oxford, and Caroline Paige Williamson of Bullock.

Day Care Director Denise Gill told the audience that each child had been asked what they wan ted to be when they grow up. There were the usual answers of policeman, fireman and doctor. Gill pointed out that Alexis Reese wants to be a “peterinarian” and take care of sick animals, Joseph Vaughan wants to be a scientist and “invent stuff,” Lowell Smith wants to be Superman, and Suzanne Williams wants to be a hairdresser and “put pretties in hair.”

Probably Gill’s favorite response came from Riley Proctor, who said she wanted to be “just like Mrs. Gill” when she grows up.

The children did the invocation and benediction, recited poems and sang songs, and received their diplomas from Gill and Deborah Harris, teacher of the 4-5 year-old class in the Day Care. The ceremonies closed with the children marching out to have cake and punch with their families.
