Six VGCC Pieces Selected For NCCCS Art Exhibit

Two paintings, two quilts and two photographs produced by VGCC faculty and Continuing Education students have been selected by President Martin Lancaster of the N.C. Community College System to be exhibited through the year in the systems office in Raleigh.

Continuing Education art instructor Leila Brigham’s acrylic painting, “Jim’s Poppies,” and a watercolor, “Cascading Lights,” by one of her students, Wanda Satterwhite, are among the selections.

Two quilting students also had pieces selected. They are Rebecca Parrott’s “Floral Quilt Square” and Mary Terry’s “Nubian Lady” wall hanging.

Two color photographs by Kendra Faulkner, an Information Systems instructor at the Franklin County Campus, will also be on display. The pictures are titled “Beautiful Currituck” (shown at right above) and “Trumpet Flowers” (shown at left).

Each year, President Lancaster selects about 100 art pieces displaying the creativity of the people in the state’s community colleges to decorate the System offices in the Caswell Building. They will be displayed throughout the remainder of 2004.

Each year, VGCC has been represented by at least one art piece, but this is the largest selection from here to date.
