Sign Up Early For Fall Semester Classes
Recent history shows that enrollment grows each semester at Vance-Granville Community College so the advice of college officials is to register early for Fall Semester classes that will begin Aug. 19.
Curriculum students may register at VGCC’s four campuses — in Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties — from Monday, July 29, to Thursday, Aug. 15. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
Incoming and returning students should follow the steps outlined in the Registration Checklist shown above.
Orientation has been scheduled for all new curriculum students, with times and dates dependent upon the program which students are beginning. All orientation sessions will be held in the Civic Center in Building 9 on Main Campus between Henderson and Oxford.
Orientation for College Transfer and Education students will be held on Saturday, July 20, for Pre-Health program students on Tuesday, July 30, and for Technical and Vocational students on Wednesday, July 31. All new students unable to attend one of those sessions may convene at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Once students have registered, they may pay, verify payment or charge tuition and fees at the VGCC Business Office on Main Campus (or at the satellite campus where they are enrolled) and pick up their official schedules.
The Business Office hours of operation during registration are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, July 29, through Thursday, Aug. 15, and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Extended hours for payments will be 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 12-15.
FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE
Persons who need financial aid in order to attend Fall Semester classes should visit the Financial Aid Office in Building 4, Room 4254, on Main Campus as soon as possible. There they can get information on various types of available assistance.
Frank A. Clark, financial aid coordinator, encourages students who need assistance to visit his office immediately and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). “It takes three to four weeks to process these forms so we advise, ‘the earlier the better’,” Clark said.
Eligible students may receive Pell Grants ranging from $400 to $4,000. If additional help is needed, there are state or college funds for students who qualify. In order for a student to charge tuition and fees to a Pell Grant, the application must be processed entirely prior to the registration period.
FAFSA forms are also available at VGCC’s three satellite campuses, and personnel stand ready at all four campuses to assist students with the application procedure. Students should remember to take a copy of their 2001 federal tax return, or their parents’ return, when they apply for funding assistance.
CHILD CARE/OTHER ASSISTANCE
Students with preschool-age children may receive childcare financial assistance, and applications for this help are available at the Financial Aid Office.
Assistance is awarded based on the greatest need of applicants as determined by the FAFSA, which must be completed before one can be considered for childcare funding.

HELP FOR VETERANS
Military veterans who wish to use their Veterans Administration benefits may contact Jerry Rose, veterans affairs coordinator, in the Financial Aid Office at (252) 738-3224. College costs cannot be charged to the VA, but veterans will receive monthly VA checks if they are approved for study.
Moreover, the VA does not approve some courses for payment. Therefore, veterans should check with Rose to see if the programs in which they are interested are covered.
