Scholarship Fund Drive Adopts Goal Of $16,000

“16 Thousand More Before 2 Thousand 4.”

That’s the slogan adopted by the co-chairpersons of the 2003 VGCC Scholarship Fund Drive. It describes the drive goal to raise $16,000 this year to support the Endowment Fund and Scholarship Program at the college.

This year’s drive will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, and will conclude at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Jo Anna Jones, program head/instructor for Business Administration, George Henderson, director of Continuing Education for Basic Skills, and Larraine Abbott, benefits specialist, are again co-chairing the drive. Under their leadership, the 2002 drive raised $14,532, marking the third year in a row more than $14,000 was given.

Over the years, faculty and staff members have given more than $156,000, helping to create several new scholarships. These are among the more than 285 scholarships that will be awarded to deserving students on Sept. 24.

A total of 40 people will be asked to be team captains this year. They will each contact from five to 10 people on their teams. A meeting of team captains will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Board Room in Building 1. Also, there will be contests and prizes to make the fund drive more exciting, including some new opportunities. All these will be explained in memos and in future issues of StafFax.
