Record 287 Students Get Grants At VGCC Scholarship Ceremony
The records keep on falling at Vance-Granville Community College.
A record 287 scholarships were awarded to full-time students at the annual Scholarship Awards Day Sept. 24. In addition, 200 part-time students have received scholarships valued at $300 each from the college’s Endowment Fund and Scholarship Program.
Altogether, Vance-Granville students have received $249,750 in scholarships this fall, another all-time college record.
President Robert A. Miller told the scholarship recipients, presenters and guests gathered in the Civic Center that there were eight Presidential Scholar Awards of $1,200 each. Presidential Merit Awards of $1,000 each went to 71 deserving students, and 191 students received Academic Achievement Awards of $500 each. Also, 17 students shared non-endowed scholarships from three companies with a total value of $13,600.
President Miller thanked the individuals, businesses, industries, civic groups and other organizations for their gifts of almost $5 million to the VGCC Endowment Fund and Scholarship Program. It is one of the largest college scholarship programs in North Carolina.
