Reavis, Owen stand out on VGCC Women’s Volleyball team mid-season

Although the young Vance-Granville Community College women’s volleyball program has had a tough season, with only one match victory so far, team members Natalie Reavis and Kaylin Owen, both of Henderson, are proving to be outstanding contributors on the court.

Three recent matches resulted in VGCC losing three sets to none. In a Sept. 24 match at home versus Brunswick Community College, the scores were 25-10, 25-10 and 25-9. As she had in previous matches, Reavis was the team leader in digs, with 15. She also had three service aces.

On Sept. 28, the Vanguards traveled to face Sandhills Community College. The Flyers beat VGCC with scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-7. This time, Reavis recorded 20 digs, two service aces, 36 attempts and five kills. Owen added 10 assists, four attempts, one kill, two blocks and six digs.

Returning home, VGCC hosted Cape Fear Community College on Oct. 1, losing with scores of 25-6, 25-5 and 25-6. The Vanguards are 0-2 versus the Sea Devils this season.
