PTK’S Alpha Sigma Chi Now On The Web

Vance-Granville’s Alpha Sigma Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa now has its own website, which may be accessed at www.vgcc.edu/PTK.htm.

Phi Theta Kappa is the national scholastic honor society for two-year colleges. The purpose of the organization is to recognize and encourage scholarship among community, technical and junior college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars and for the stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

The Alpha Sigma Chi chapter at VGCC recognizes and encourages scholarship among the institution’s students. To that end, a web site has been created for the ASC chapter by a recent VGCC graduate and PTK member, Copper Rain.

According to Rain, the site is in its initial stages, but plans for expansion are well under way. Currently, the site contains listings of the current officers and advisors, the most recent inductees into the society and society members back to 1993.

“I am in the process of obtaining the lists of the PTK members from the beginning of the ASC chapter at VGCC,” said Rain. “When I have those lists, I will add them to the site, as well.”

In addition, Rain wants to create a “Memory Page” for each individual inductee class. “That will give them a chance to record their activities and events for future inductees to see and for them to look back on their VGCC days as Kappans,” said Rain.

As the web master for the site, Rain also plans to establish links to other Kappa sites throughout the country. This would allow members to find out what other chapters are doing and establish an atmosphere for the exchange of ideas. One of her fondest hopes for the site would be a link to an on-line catalog containing Phi Theta Kappa paraphernalia such as pins, t-shirts, plaques, hats and more.

Rain stresses her openness for suggestions for the site and encourages anyone with ideas or input to contact her in the VGCC Marketing, Room 9109, ext. 3422.
