Popular Computer Classes Begin Soon at VGCC

For those who found computers or other high-tech gadgets under the tree, or for anyone who wants to hone their computer skills, Vance-Granville Community College will offer several of its popular computer-related classes in January on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

The “Beginner’s Guide to Computers & Internet” course is the perfect first class for students who have limited knowledge of computers. Microsoft Windows XP will be used to introduce novice students to the common components and many uses of personal computers through the Windows environment. Additionally, students will explore web sites by using a browser, learn how to access information on the Internet by using search engines, and send and receive e-mail messages. This course will be offered on Thursday evenings from 6 until 10 p.m., Jan. 8 through Feb. 12. Classes will be taught by Laura Peace in room 7100 of Building 7 on the main campus. For more information and to register, call 252-738-3417 or 252-738-3324.

Peace will also teach a class on the 2007 editions of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Two of the most popular and widely used components of the Microsoft Office suite, the programs were recently revamped with new features. This class will meet on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Jan. 14 through Feb. 18, in room 7100 of Building 7. For more information and to register, call 252-738-3417 or 252-738-3324.

Finally, VGCC will offer a class on the popular QuickBooks bookkeeping software on Tuesdays, Jan. 13 through Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Main Campus. In this introductory course, students will be given an opportunity for hands-on practice with QuickBooks, the powerful accounting system for small businesses. Students will learn to invoice customers, record payments for customers, pay bills to outside vendors, manage inventory and analyze financial data. For more information and to register, call (252) 738-3239 or (252) 738-3324.

The registration cost for each course is $55, plus $4 in technology and access/security fees.

For more information and to pre-register for one or more of these classes, call (252) 738-3345 or (252) 738-3417. The college will re-open after the holidays on Jan. 5.
