PN Students Review Fall Events; Plan Busy Spring

If the upcoming spring months are anything like the past fall semester for VGCC Practical Nursing Program students, class members can look forward to a busy time ahead.

A number of activities marked the past semester, including a 50/50 raffle that raised funds for graduation and other upcoming events. Linda Hahnel, nursing instructor, was the winner and received half of the money.

As a Thanksgiving project, the class collected canned goods and received donations for purchasing dinner and other items for a needy family. And at Christmas, the students provided a needy grandmother and her three grandchildren gifts of clothing, toys and food. The VGCC Criminal Justice Club and nursing instructor Francine Davis assisted financially with the latter activity. All the PN students expressed appreciation to those who helped

With the beginning of the new Spring Semester, the class welcomed back six new students into the program. Looking ahead, they are preparing for the upcoming State Practical Nursing Conference, as well as planning for their annual pinning ceremony, Graduation on Aug. 5, and other future events. Another fundraiser also is on tap to support these projects, they reported.

Finally, the class offered a “thank you” to the following instructors for their support, compassion, hard work and understanding; Beth Phillips, VGCC’s director of nursing: Francine Davis and Linda Hahnel, LPN Instructors; and George Gorby and Marion Breeden, clinical instructors.
